The 5 Different Categories of Torah She'Ba'al Peh
The Torah has been passed down and interpreted for many generations, leading back to the giving of the Torah to Moshe at Sinai. What is know to us as "Oral Torah" is the interpretations of the Torah and customs that have been passed down orally until much of it was written down in Mishnahyot and Brahytot. However, we do not simply have an oral Torah, in which everything has equal status, and is derived the same way. There are 5 categories of Oral Torah, that decrease in divinity and increase in human involvement from the first category to the fifth.
