When Moshe was about to die, he asked all of the people of Israel if they need help understanding the two parts of Torah. Anyone who forgot the laws or explanations went to Moshe. When he died, Joshua led all the people in discussing His teachings. Everything that was directly from Moshe was not debated. However, anything that was not directly from Moshe, the people discussed it using the thirteen principles that were given at Mount Sinai.
Before Joshua died, he taught all the elders everything from Moshe and all their details. The Elders then taught it to the prophets who then taught it to each other. This continued for generations until they taught it to the Great Assembly. This continued for generations. The last generation of this assembly was Shimon the righteous.
After this period, Rabbi Yehuda Hanasi took all the teachings and compiled the Mishna so that we can remember our tradition...
